Not Forsaken
"Hold me just one minute" words of a three year old right as story time ended and just as I picked her up to put her down for the night. And then the questioning began "Will you check on me? will you leave the light on just a little? will you crack the door? will you check on me?" "yes, little one, yes, ill be right downstairs. With all her requests met, I head downstairs to clean up from the mess we'd made and to start prepping for the next day. Taking care of her needs while she slumbers (or at least she's suppose to be sleeping) and then I hear "Miss Kirsten, Miss Kirsten" as her voice begins to break. I sprint--- taking the stairs two by two. "I'm here, I'm here." Tears start spilling over as she settles back down, and then repeats the same questioning process, "will you come check on me?"
"I'll come check on you. I'm just downstairs.I'm here."
As I got her settled, His Spirit whispered words of "I will never leave you or forsake you." And then of course, Spurgeon's devotion for that night was on Him, never leaving or forsaking. He seemed to be singing those words over me over the next few days as it came up in multiple ways and conversations.
Through her questioning, I saw my child-likeness come out when I mess up, when I can't feel Him, or when I am wading through transitional decisions. My wonder of are you there? Do you see me?? "Will you check on me?" and I find Him constant, and steadfast working for my good and His glory even when all the dots don't connect.
No, she couldn't see me. No, she couldn't feel me. But I was there, I was working for her good; and I wasn't about to go anywhere. How much greater does our Father love us! How much greater is His promise to "never leave or forsake"; "to be with us until the end of the age!"
Scripture is full of His promise to never leave or forsake! He sent His own son-- to be forsaken on a cross, to pay the penalty for your sin, so that in Christ-- you wouldn't be forsaken!
