Time
The conversation was over the summer but it stuck. Hearts open, laying it out as a friend and I pounded it out on the pavement. Sweet fellowship. Overwhelmed with the lessons we were learning and His patience towards us as we talked about how often it seems we learn the same lesson over and over, and more often than not, in greater depths. Onion layers being peeled back one at a time. Overwhelmed realizing His patience toward us is unfathomable. We are slow learners with a patient teacher.
8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you..(2 Peter 3:8-9)
Fast forward: My students tackled time this week---elapsed time, a daunting task for both teacher and student. Also fitting for the lesson to be remembered and relearned from the summer, our times are in His hands.
She couldn't wrap her mind around it... minutes change and all the adding and subtracting made the task even more confusing so we worked, and we worked. The Judy Clock (seriously, JudyClocks are the bomb diggity), her, and I became great friends. ... she just couldn't wrap her mind around it. We worked through timelines, drew clocks, made graphs, counted on our fingers, etc. Some would confuse, some would help. Patience wearing thin and frustration setting in. Learning through osmosis isn't how it works. Literally in the midst of working with her, He reminded me of this conversation from the summer: His patience towards me, towards you too. Slow learners who He continually guides and counsels over and over again. "the Lord is gracious and merciful, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love." (Psalms 145:8). He is slow to anger. Yes, even when we are annoyed that we haven't quite gotten it yet; even when we think we should be on a different pacing guide of kingdom lessons. Overwhelmed yet again at His patience.
Teacher again became student in His classroom.
As I sat there realizing His patience and love towards me while I learn, how could I not be patient?
His grace poured out. Work continues, frustration dies down. I can see it... her mind begins to grasp as confidence grows. Perserverance little one. And then after some time, she gets it! Jubilance? is that a word?
Our times are in His hands. Your lesson may be different from the other guys and you may learn it a little slower (or faster). But all of our times are in His hands. He is patient. Slow to anger. He is good. He knows what you need and how to teach.
