Birds of a feather flock together

Ok, so this post has nothing to do with the title except for the fact that I talk about birds... consider yourself warned and lower your expectations:)

I’ve suddenly become fond of birds (most of them, anyway). I used to not notice them and thought they were kind of gross since they leave a mess on your car and sometimes on you if you’re not careful(yes, it's happened to me before). But now, I sometimes get a little giddy? inside when I see a bird…it’s kind of like I have an inside joke with the bird that the rest of the world doesn’t know about. This change of heart has only come about in the last year. When I was on training staff at Maranook one of the girls would sing “His Eye is on the Sparrow” which I knew but I guess really hadn’t paid attention to the words. Or at least didn’t see the significance of them in my own life. Now every time I see a bird, I find myself singing “His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.” Not only that but in that moment I'm reminded of this passage in Matthew 6 (you should probably read the whole chapter…)

25 “ For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? 27 And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life?
When I see birds, I get to be reminded of the fact that He takes care of the birds, and I can trust that He will take care of whatever is going on in my life from the big stuff to the minute details-(even if it’s not the way I or you think it should be handled). It all goes back to His name and His trustworthiness and how He will work things out for His glory and my sanctification. He takes care of the birds. He formed us in our mother’s womb and knows all our days before there was even one of them…Why do we (I) so often question His goodness??

When I’m anxious it’s hard to focus my mind on anything and especially difficult to get out of my thoughts so sometimes I have to talk out loud to Him. It can be super helpful in captivating my thoughts.  Instead of being anxious I can remind my heart to “Fear not, for He has redeemed me, He has called me by name and I am His.” (Isaiah 43:1) David talked to his heart in the Psalms so we can talk to ours and question it right?
I definitely haven’t got this whole “do not be anxious” thing down.  In fact, I’d consider myself a pro at being anxious but it has never really given me anything except a headache and a terrible night’s sleep.

If we stop long enough to pay attention, we can see how all of creation points to Him and can be used to teach us/ remind us of who He is.
