All You Need....

The needs across all cultures: food/water, shelter, clothing (appropriate clothing ie. no flip flops and t-shirts in Siberia- hypothermia anyone?) There they were posted on the board. Teacher becoming student not just of the classroom but of His classroom as I observed and took notes of all that these little ones were learning- I was being schooled too. The concept so basic that across all cultures the needs of people to survive are the same. We may be in a remote village in East Asia or the middle of Memphis, TN but we have the same basic needs. These temporary needs only being met for the moment and pointing us to our greater need.my greater need... to know Him and be filled with Him.

Food- "I am the Bread of Life" John 6:4

Water- He is the living water. "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked and him, and he would have given you living water." (John 4:10)

Shelter- "He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken. On God rests my salvation and my glory; my mighty rock, my refuge is God." Psalms 62:6-7

Clothing- He clothes us with His righteouness. We exchange our filthy rags for robes of His righteousness. Isaiah 61:10; 64:6

I don't think it's by accident that the Social Studies books state these needs as the same across all cultures. "Our longings give us away..." He is God of the details, and I am not putting it past him to give us these temporary desires to help us wrap our finite minds around glimpses of who He is. I also dont think it's by accident that I've suddenly become even more aware of the multiple times and ways the word "need" is being brought up. Do you ever get the feeling He is trying to teach you something? So here I am being schooled in being needy... recognizing that I am but dust.  And just so you know- I hate being needy. Asking for help is not my forte... So here I am, a wannabe teacher turned student in the art of being needy... needing Him.

"Indeed, when we understand the true nature of His love for us, we will prefer to come to Him poor and helpless. We will never be ashamed of our distress. Distress is to our advantage when we have nothing to seek but mercy. We can be glad of our helplessness when we really believe that His power is made perfect in our infirmity." Thomas Merton's Thoughts in Solitude

How's your heart? Do you see your need for Him, or are you like me in the need of some schooling on humbling yourself before Him and finding that He the Provider and Sustainer. He is the only one who can transform our sinful hearts. His blood covers. His blood justifies and "justice smiles and asks no more."
Cling to Him.

"Come, ye sinners, poor and needy,
Weak and wounded, sick and sore;
Jesus ready stands to save you,
Full of pity, love and power.

I will arise and go to Jesus,
He will embrace me in His arms;
In the arms of my dear Savior,
O there are ten thousand charms."
